"A Couple's Faith"

When I was a young child of 8 or 9 one Sunday morning during an altar call at our church (under the pastorate of Rev. Dewey Zinn), I asked Jesus into my heart. I’m sure I didn’t realize all that that decision meant, but I did know that I wanted to go to heaven when I died. I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins, “come into my heart” and be my Savior.

Several years after Mike & I married, I started attending a neighborhood Bible Study. I realized that some Christians I knew were different. They seemed to have a peace, contentment and positive attitude that I desired to have. As I studied God’s Word, I found that the secret to a victorious Christian life was to give total control of my life to Jesus - to ask Him to be the Lord of my life.

Since I asked Jesus to be not only my Savior, but also the Lord of my life, I now have that joy, peace and contentment that I was searching for. Giving Him control of my life frees me from worrying about today, yesterday or tomorrow. I know that He has a wonderful plan for our lives and even though at times things may seem to go wrong, His Word promises that He will work them all out for our ultimate good.

During our dating years, I attended church occasionally with Judy and then after we were married I attended church and even Sunday school fairly often, but never felt the need for a personal relationship with Jesus.

What I didn’t realize was that the Holy Spirit was softening my hardened heart as I listened to God‘s Word through the preaching of Rev. Dewey Zinn and the teaching of Russell Janvrin.

The Holy Spirit brought me to a place in my life that I desired to have a personal relationship with Jesus here and in heaven. John 3:3 says we must be born again for this to happen. I was born again in 1977, and raised to a new life in Christ.

Since that time Judy’s and my faith and trust in Jesus has brought us through tough times and good times. Knowing that we can trust him to be there for us brings us a peace that can only be found in knowing Jesus as our personal Savior.
